Welcome To My Blog!
I am so glad you've decided to stop by! Before we embark on our musical journey together let me tell you tell you a little bit about myself.
Music has played a very large role in my life for as long as I can remember. My Mom, a singer, made sure that music was always playing in our home. My fascination with the violin began when I was two years old and started begging my parents for lessons. They found me a wonderful Suzuki teacher and I started taking lessons at age three.
I started teaching when I was thirteen after teaching under my teacher for a year. I have continued teaching up to the present day, using the Suzuki method that I grew up with. I enjoy sharing the gift of music-making with all of my students and helping them express who they are through music.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching, but it's not the only thing I love about music.
Since my preteen years I have been obsessed with the study of ethnomusicology (world music). I am particularly interested in Celtic folk music. I get really excited when I'm learning about what music means to other cultures and how they make it a meaningful part of their lives.
As a music major, a music teacher, and a musician, I attend many different performances throughout the year. I love writing reviews on the different concerts I experience.
I plan to post short reviews on the performances I watch and articles that I write on World Music on this blog. I will probably write some album reviews and music history tidbits as well.
Now that you know me I can get started. I am very glad that you are going to join me on this journey.
Thank you for reading!
-Rachel
